There has recently been a layoff spree at Google. This week, the dismissal started with the workers in the Google Assistant Product Hardware and the Engineering unit.
This time, Google says it is firing a number of workers from its advertising sales team and this is still a part of the global restructuring. According to reports, the latest job cuts will predominantly impact the Large Customer Sales (LCS) unit responsible for selling ads to large businesses. The Google Customer Solutions team (GCS), focused on smaller clients, is slated to become the central ad sales team.
Google has reportedly explained what it is trying to do - that it is undertaking a thorough process to organize its team for optimal service to ad customers. Also, it is looking to align customers with suitable specialist teams and sales channels to meet their service requirements. As a component of this, several hundred positions worldwide are being cut, and affected employees will have the opportunity to apply for available roles within Google or elsewhere.
Although Google is yet to disclose the actual number of workers it would be laying off in the sales department, the total number of layoffs from the tech company this year has neared a lot of hundreds. At the same time, Google is not saying if it would stop its rounds of layoffs with the sales team or if there are more to come.
As of today, 17 January 2024, Google has implemented substantial reductions across various segments of its company, impacting employees involved with Pixel, Fitbit, and Nest products, as well as those in its engineering and Google Assistant teams. And, even now, the gist from sources close to the company is that the latest layoffs are just the beginning.
The wave of actions from Google has got people talking, some are wondering why it chose a new year to lay its workers off, and others are wondering "When does this firing end?" Amidst all of these questions, Google has maintained that it is only doing what is best for the company.
