Most times when employers recruit for new roles, aside from someone who has all the hard skills required for the job, they also consider people who possess some soft skills. As soft skills have been proven over time to take people very far in their careers ahead of hard skills. Now lets take a look at three Soft Skills Employers Should Look For During Recruitment.
Three Soft Skills Employers Should Look For During Recruitment
Below are the 3 top soft skills employers are advised to look for during recruiting for a new role as these skills would further help pick the best candidate for the job.
Strong Work Ethics
It is normal for employers to prefer candidates with strong work ethics, so comparing one applicant to another's is critical. However, simply asking them if they have a good work ethic is unlikely to yield useful results—after all, no candidate will say "no". Instead, inquire as to what a strong work ethic means to them. Then, ask for examples of times when they demonstrated the behaviors they just described. Following that, inquire as to what motivated them in those instances. Was it the prospect of a raise or a bonus? or just wanted to contribute to the company's success?
Flexibility And Adaptability
Adaptability and flexibility has always been an important soft skill to have. This is a very important skill due to the unpredictability of today's world. As an employer, you should look out for these skills in your potential employee. Having in mind uncertainties in the business world, you should consider whether a candidate can adapt to changing situations before hiring them. Problem-solving, time management, critical thinking, and leadership all require adaptability and flexibility.

To determine whether an interviewee possesses these two characteristics, ask them about how they were able to adjust from their regular work schedule during the Covid-19 Pandemic. What kind of guidance and support did their employers provide? What did they believe they required but did not receive? And how did they continue to operate in the absence of whatever they lacked? Examine the candidate's attitude toward learning new technologies, dealing with last-minute client changes, and adhering to a project timetable when something is handed off late. Find out whether they've ever had to pick up someone else's task and how they felt about it.
Teamwork
We are not sure anybody going into an interview can willingly acknowledge being a bad team player. They'll tell you they work well with others no matter what, which is why you'll have to dig to find out the truth. Being a great team member necessitates empathy as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills. It requires not only that the employee understand their job responsibilities, but also that they respect the roles of others. Every employee deserves a work-life balance, but one person should always pay the price. When the workload increases, a typical team player steps in to provide balance. Hence if all your employees are team players, you won't have too much of an issue here when the workload increases or there is an urgent deadline that needs to be met.
Try to find out about candidates' previous team and project experiences. How did they react when other team members asked for their assistance? What did they do when they noticed their coworkers struggling? Ask them about team achievements, near-misses, and failures as well. What role did they play in winning and losing? What was their reaction? Did they assess projects to identify why they worked or why they didn't, and what changes they should make as a team on the next one?
