Sam Altman secures a new position at Microsoft after being fired from Open AI

Sam Altman who has just been relieved of his position as the CEO of Open AI has secured a new job with Microsoft. Just a few days ago, the board of directors at Open AI decided to let go of Sam because, according to them, his communication skills were nothing to write home about. Although Sam contributed greatly to building the popular artificial intelligence model, ChatGpt at Open AI, the company thinks that he is no longer fit to be a part of the team. 

Following this action taken by the board at OpenAI, the Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft, Satya Nadella decided to hire Altman and his team members and announced the news on Monday 20th, November 2023. 

Nadella took to his Twitter, now X,  page to officially share the information. He said "We're thrilled to announce that Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, and their team will join Microsoft to spearhead a new advanced AI research team. We're eager to swiftly empower them with the resources they need for success." Just like that, Altman who had just lost his job got another almost immediately where he had to return to work with the same team. 

Meanwhile, Ilya Sutsekever who was a member of the board of directors that fired Altman tweeted on Monday, 20th November - "I deeply regret my participation in the board's actions. I never intended to harm OpenAI. I love everything we've built together and I will do everything I can to reunite the company." Sam acknowledged the tweet and quoted it with a love emoji. 

Satya Nadella stated that there's a continued commitment to their partnership with OpenAI, expressing confidence in their product roadmap, the capability to sustain innovation as outlined during Microsoft Ignite, and the determination to support customers and partners going forward.

What do people think about this change of event? 

No one saw it coming; Altman was recently just fired and it didn't feel like anyone would have pulled a fast one like Satya did. When Satya published the tweet about the new development on X, the engagement was wild - about 38 million views, 15,300 reposts, 12,000 quotes, and 92,000 likes. Some of the comments read;
