Popular Online Book-Store, Okada Books forced to cease operations

Okada Books, founded by Ofili Okechukwu has been around for a long time, 2013 to be precise, and has helped several writers achieve their dreams of becoming publishers too. Individuals who are avid readers have also had to lean toward the product to buy books that cater to their different interests.

However, on the 20th of November, 2023, Okada Books said that it will no longer function as a bookstore starting from November 30, 2023. The company says that, although the decision is hard, there has been so much consideration and reflection and it looks like the only option left.

'This has not been an easy choice. We have explored different avenues to keep our virtual bookshelves alive but the challenges we face are insurmountable." the CEO, Okechuckwu Ofili wrote in his email to the users.

"Over the years, we have experienced journeys together, delving into new worlds, discovering and fostering a community of readers and writers that we are immensely proud of. Each of you has made Okada books what it is today." he continued.

Further expressing gratitude, he testified that the support and passion of the users of Okada books have been everything and that they have witnessed amazing stories unfold, celebrated the triumph of authors, and above all, built a community that so much cherished written words. "Although this chapter is coming to an end, the stories, memories, and connections will endure," he said.

Okechukwu also stated the news might come as a shock to the public, however, they are assuring everyone of their readiness to assist with any inquiries. On behalf of the entire Okada team, he expressed gratitude for the community's involvement in the incredible journey and thanked them for their contributions so far.

"As OkadaBooks bids farewell, we hope that everyone will continue exploring the world of literature through other avenues. The adventure doesn't end, it only takes a new and exciting turn." he closed his email.

Reactions from the public

News of shutdowns from any company will always attract reactions from the public, especially users of the affected product. OkadaBooks shared screenshots of the email to its Twitter page and over 170 comments and 464 quotes have been recorded.

A Twitter user suspected to be a community member replied to the tweet saying;

"Another good one bites the dust. Nigeria💔"

Another Twitter user quoted the tweet shared by OkadaBooks saying;

"There were thousand & one projects, Campaigns, partnerships with schools, young people, a lot Okadabooks could have done to remain(in an internet era). But I don't know what happened..I was one of the earliest book buyers. Had a lot of online books from them. Sad stuff right now."
