Open AI is a technology company, founded in 2015 and popularly known for its forte in artificial intelligence research and development. It creates different AI models which include the very popular ChatGPT which works effectively as a Generative Pre-trained Transformer model.

Several users have talked about how they have been able to fix a couple of their tasks, projects, and even schedules using these models created by the company, and all of these moves down to how efficient each person at Open AI has been. 

However, on the 17th of November, 2023, the tech company announced a change in its leadership operations. 

What's happening with the leadership at Open AI? 

The board of directors at Open AI has announced that  Sam Altman will no longer be the CEO of the company.  Taking further actions, they have now appointed the company's CTO (chief technology officer), Mira Murati to act as the interim CEO starting from the day the announcement was made. 

Mira has been a core part of the Open AI's team for 5 years and has brought more positive impact upon the organization, carrying out each of her duties as an exceptional Artificial Intelligence leader. The company didn't just pick anyone to replace Sam Altman; they have recognized the spectacular skills and valuable contributions of Mira over the years and have decided that she has enough experience in AI, governance, and policy that can help her take up this new position. 

Before it was decided that Sam Altman had to be relieved of his position, there had been a deliberative review done by the board of directors which concluded that Sam struggled with proper communication and this has consistently affected his ability to perform perfectly in his role. According to a letter released by the company, it says "we no longer have confidence in Sam's ability to continue leading us at Open AI."

The board of directors which consists of OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, independent director Quora,  CEO Adam D’Angelo, technology entrepreneur Tasha McCauley, and Georgetown Center for Security and Emerging Technology’s Helen Toner further expressed that OpenAI was intentionally designed to pursue its mission, guaranteeing that artificial general intelligence benefits everyone. They affirmed their dedication to this mission, acknowledging Sam's significant contributions to OpenAI's inception and expansion. At the same time, they highlighted the need for new leadership going forward and stated that Mira is the right person for the job. 

Not only was a new CEO appointed but Greg Brockman also stepped down as the board's chairman to focus on his role at the company. 

Reactions from Users 

When the company published this information as a tweet on its X page, it attracted over 11.9 million engagements which bore over 3,300 comments and counting. 

An X user replied to the tweet saying: 

"Pro tip: if your announcement about a change of company leadership leaves millions of people wondering whether this increases or decreases the near-term risk of human extinction, your company needs to rethink more than just its senior management."

Another X user quoted the tweet saying:

"Holy Shyteburgers!

"Mr. Altman ... was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities. The board no longer has confidence in his ability to continue leading OpenAI."

That's some serious bridge burning." 

A lot of replies have kept coming in but the company says it has made its decision and believes it's for the best.
