Alerzo, a Nigeria-based e-commerce company founded in 2019, after laying off 400 employees, has fired another 100.
The company confirmed this news saying "As a company, we’ve invested and built an end-to-end warehouse management system that has improved process automation. These technological investments have enhanced warehouse performance, including our turnover and sales metrics. Unfortunately, this has meant streamlining and consolidating certain warehouse roles."
In 2021, according to research, the company, founded by Adewale Opaleye who is also the CEO raised about $10.5million in the series A round but has still not been able to get hold of the business. Alerzo was created to bring a big transformation to retail store operations in Nigeria.
Per insiders close to the startup, most of the employees affected by this decision were workers across the company's 40 warehouses. A new software was introduced which resulted in the removal of multiple approval stages within the warehouses, rendering certain positions unnecessary. They mentioned that a minimum of two employees from each warehouse were dismissed as a result.
As the company informs those affected, it guarantees them one month's salary following their termination and ensures the continuation of their healthcare benefits until the end of the year.
