Social Media has been here for a long time and with the look of things, it is not going anywhere, and so are social media handlers. 95 out of 100 business owners have a social media page for their business where they showcase what they do and who they are. Considering how a business can have more than a social media page, it becomes too overwhelming for the business to do it alone, and that's where social media managers come into the picture.

Apart from having the skills, to get a job as a social media handler, you must undergo due process which requires you to attend an interview. During the interview, you will be asked various questions and your answers to these questions determine your chances of getting the job. While we may not have the exact questions your interviewer intends to ask you, we have prepared some common questions you may likely encounter. Read on.

How many social media pages can you handle at once?

From time to time, there is a new social media that people can explore and leverage. The job of a social media handler cuts across responding to comments and direct messages, posting content, and monitoring performance. This may look like some bulk of work, so the interviewer needs to know how many social media pages you can handle at once and also, what your organizational skills look like.

"I have worked as a social media handler for 3 years and during this period, I have developed skills that enable me to handle multiple social media pages simultaneously. I have successfully handled Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, and LinkedIn and developed social media strategies that yielded a 20% increase in follower growth and a 15% upswing in total engagement."

How do you engage and interact with the online audience to build brand loyalty?

People have had different experiences with online business owners and now have a hard time trusting online business owners or even checking out the pages. Your hiring manager wants to be sure that you can effectively connect with the target audience and build a relationship that can instill trust and loyalty in them. To answer, you can say;

"I have come to understand that people tend to engage better when they receive prompt and timely responses, so, I prioritize instant and personalized responses to audience interactions. Whenever I have to address comments on social media posts, reply to direct messages, or acknowledge mentions, I make sure to do it in time by providing helpful answers and responses."

How do you schedule and organize social media content?

Content planning and distribution are important aspects of social media management. If the interviewer is asking how you intend to schedule social media content, then the idea is to know how good you are with using social media calendars and other tools. You can simply say;

"I use a calendar that represents the content schedule, including dates, times, platforms, and relevant content pieces for each scheduled post. Doing this ensures a consistent flow of content across different platforms. Also, I use scheduling tools such as hoot suite and in-app scheduling features that allow me to schedule posts in advance, setting a particular posting time. These tools help me to adequately plan content for various platforms and ensure optimal distribution."

How do you grow social media followers and increase engagement?

To answer this question, make sure that you share your strategies for organic growth which includes what you will do to attract followers, and engagement without really relying on paid adverts. Discuss moves such as consistent posting, audience interaction, and user-generated content. You can answer by saying:

"I make sure to create visually appealing and compelling content. This includes using high-quality images, videos, and graphics, accompanied by engaging captions or copies. The trick is to put out what people want to see which as well aligns with the values of the brand."

Do you have other interests aside from social media management?

Your interviewer is probably trying to test your overall passion for social media management and your willingness to expand your skillset beyond social media management. Your answer should look like this;

"Yes, I do. While social media management is currently my core area of specialization. I have also, along the line, developed some good skills in digital marketing. These complementary interests contribute to my effectiveness even as a social media manager."

How do you measure the performance of a social media page?

The essence of this question is to check your ability to track and interpret relevant metrics and also know your understanding of KPIs (Key Performance Indicators). Here is an appropriate way to answer;

"I analyze metrics such as likes, comments, shares, and saves to gauge the level of audience interaction and the resonance of the content. These metrics help me understand which types of content generate the highest engagement and yield meaningful conversations with the audience. Also, reach and impressions are key indicators of a page's visibility, so I monitor them to determine potential exposure and impact of the content on the audience."

How do you address a negative comment on a social media post?

Social media is a general playground for all, and this means that anyone can give their thoughts or feedback about a matter, product, or idea. This situation puts you in a position to handle customer feedback and manage the brand's online reputation. The answer to the question can be;

"I take my time to check the comment to see what the concern is, then I provide a helpful response to the commenter. Unless the situation is a really sensitive one, I make sure to reply publicly as public responses signify transparency and provide an opportunity to let other followers know that the brand is attentive and responsive."

Being a social media handler is hard work; hence, don't be taken aback by the questions you will get from your interviewer. They only want to be certain that you can play the role well. However, it is important that you do the right thing from your end too, prepare! There is never too much preparation.
