Cadbury Nigeria Plc is a fraction of Cadbury, a top global confectionery company that has been operating relentlessly for close to 200 years. Cadbury was created in Birmingham, United Kingdom in 1824 by John Cadbury and has expanded to become one of the most celebrated chocolate brands in the world. Although Cadbury was founded in 1824, they didn't start making chocolates until 1831 when John decided to begin production on a commercial scale and acquired a four-story building for that purpose.
Cadbury started in the UK
In 1842, John had already created about 16 varieties of drinking chocolates and 11 cocoas. This translates to the fact that a customer could purchase drinking chocolates in the form of pressed cakes and powders. The varieties had thrilling names such as:
Churchman's Chocolate
Spanish Chocolate
Fine Brown Chocolate
The Cocoa varieties were sold as flakes, in powder and granules, they also had interesting names such as :
Granulated cocoa
Iceland Moss
Pearl
Homoeopathic
The business expanded in 1847 and moved into a larger factory on Bridge's street in Birmingham, and that was where the first chocolate bar was produced. After this production that led to major progress, John handed over in 1861 to his sons, Richard - who was in charge of sales and marketing, and George - who fixed the production process.
Things took a new turn for Cadbury Plc in 1866 when modern innovative technology was introduced and it facilitated the production of the first "Pure Cocoa" named Cadbury Cocoa Essence. The technology was a cocoa press that extracted all butter from the cocoa such that it was no longer necessary to add starch. Cocoa Essence ranked as a "best seller" and helped to increase sales which propelled the seemingly small business into a recognized brand today.
In 2010, Cadbury was acquired by Mondelez International, an American confectionery food and beverage company, but still operates as a separate business unit within the company with its own brand identity. Currently, Cadbury has its headquarters in Cadbury House, Uxbridge, Greater London, and operations in over 50 countries around the world including Nigeria.
Cadbury Nigeria PLC!

The company became publicly quoted in 1976 when Cadbury Schweppes sold 20% of its stake in the company to Nigerian investors in a bid to strategy to localize ownership and control of the business in Nigeria. Today, Cadbury Nigeria PLC is headquartered in Ikeja, Lagos state producing more than enough food and beverages for the consumption of every individual and family.
