You need to see this If you are about to Study Medicine at a Nigerian University

Gaining admission to study medicine at a Nigerian University is already a big deal. However, the bulk of work is in how you work hard to retain the position for the number of years designated to the course. It's a different thing to be admitted into the university to study medicine and, it is an entirely different ball game to scale through all levels and pass well even until the final year. It is okay if you plan to read your books and pass but we also think that having these nuggets will go a long way too.

Never yield to procrastination

Don't ever say that you can do it tomorrow when you can do it today. There is a whole lot to do in medical school and if you procrastinate, the workload will be too much that you may not be able to redeem yourself from it. Fix your assignments when you are supposed to, and clear off all work logs even before the next day, if possible.

You can give up a day but show up tomorrow

Medical school is so much work and it is understandable that on some days, you may not feel up to it. But, you must also understand that you can't feel knocked out for long. You could take a day to catch your breath but be back at it tomorrow and do not leave anything to chance. If you ever feel the need to take a short break, do it because most times, it only gets you ready for the next big thing.

Group discussion is as important as personal reading

Whether you are preparing for a test or exam, while it is important for you to do your personal reading, never underestimate the power of group discussions too. Solely focusing on personal reading without engaging in group discussions might make you miss out on valuable perspectives and learning experiences. Through discussions, you can clarify doubts, deepen your understanding of complex topics, and learn from others' interpretations and analyses. The point is, you can't read alone for 6 years.

Ask questions

At every point in time that you don't have an idea what is going on in the faculty, with a course, with a development, ask questions. You could be saving from making certain mistakes or losing courses you didn't have proper information about. You can ask anyone, it could be a professor, coursemates, or relevant authorities as long as they are approachable.

Do not lose yourself to Medicine

Being a medical student doesn't mean that you are not able to do other fun things. Find yourself a balance between your academic commitments and leisure activities. While being a medical student demands dedication and hard work, you must also prioritize your mental and physical well-being by engaging in activities you enjoy outside of your studies. It could be baking, hanging out with friends, drawing, content creation, or anything at all that doesn't allow you to get all fixated on the course without a little fun.
