As the year rounds up, every professional has started to check what their growth process seems like in the past year. While some are recounting their promotions, the sales they made, and how much they have grown, some people seem to feel like they are not behind and have not done anything spectacular. This could be you, just feeling like the rest of the world is ahead of you and you can't seem to get hold of what is happening in your career and it is even dawning more on you because it's the end of the year.
There is no need to beat yourself up about something you were not able to achieve this year, you can only get excited about the coming year and decide to do even more. The truth is you are working hard now and you are still hitting the ceiling which means that you must want to do things differently. So how?
Network! Network!
Neglecting networks is a common pitfall. You may get too absorbed in your role such that you forget the power of connections. It's not just about doing your job well but also about who you know and who knows you. Staying in your comfort zone and sticking to a particular task or people can limit your growth. Breaking out of this cycle to meet new people is key and can lead to a breakthrough.
Switch to a working strategy
If you have been using a different approach and it is not working, then it's high time to change your strategy. Check around to see what you can do differently; if you have been making friends and connecting with people online, maybe next year is when you get to step out more instead - attend conferences and meet even more people.
Explore a new discipline
You never can tell, sometimes, it could be the idea of what you already know that is keeping you in a slump. So, instead of remaining there, try a new project, and do something extremely different. The friction of transitioning into something new can get you out of where you currently are and set you up for even more interesting days ahead.
Be introspective
It is important to introspect because sometimes too, it's not like you are stuck. You have done several remarkable things but you are finding it hard to see these things. And because of this, you think you are stuck. Take time, introspect, and figure out all the moves you've made, the certificates you have bagged, the times your contributions have worked, and even gone a long way. Maybe you are not stuck, but just overthinking.
Build in public
You may be a badass writer but how many people know that you are? Build in public; when you make a design and it looks really good, share it on your social media platforms. If you write a really beautiful blog post, make sure that you share it and give people access to not just read but share. The more people know about what you do, the better for you. It could even be the breakthrough you need for your career at that time.
Don't ever feel like you are stuck. Just put in a conscious effort to move past where you currently are. The year may be over but a new year is a new chance, so give it your best shot. Pursue the things that you love doing, practice consistently, and never let failure deter you. If you fall, get up and do it again!
