These are the top 10 in-demand tech skills in 2024 according to Coursera

Coursera, a popular online education platform must have gotten hold of the data of individuals looking to transition into tech or improve their tech journey in 2024 and has listed the top 10 in-demand tech skills in its 2024 Job skills report. 

The report, introduced by Coursera's CEO, Jeff Maggioncalda, highlights the most rapidly developing skills of the year. It gathers information from five million corporate learners associated with 3,000 businesses, 3,600 higher education institutions, and various governments across more than 100 countries including Nigeria. 

Coursera also shared that the sudden evolution of the job market is amplifying the demand for developer skills. As a result, three of the ten most rapidly growing tech skills this year 2024 include React (a web programming framework), software architecture, and Django (another web framework).

"They are in demand across verticals and growing the fastest among government-affiliated learners. This correlates with global job growth. In the United States alone over 400,000 new developer jobs are expected to be created by 2031," the report read. This means another opportunity for skilled Nigerian workers who want to work abroad. 

What are the top 10 in-demand tech skills? 

According to Coursera, the top 10 in-demand tech skills include the following: 

Software Architecture

Software Architecture involves working around a series of architectural patterns, design principles, and technologies that can be used to create a guide for building rich and efficient software solutions. Simply put, it organizes all the components of a particular software, creating structures and systems needed to make it work. 

System Security 

System security refers to the protection of computer systems and networks from various threats, such as unauthorized data breaches, malware, and other cyberattacks. Anyone with this skill must be able to implement firewalls, fix encryptions, control access, update software regularly, and detect intrusion systems. 

System Design 

System design defines the elements of a system, i.e. the interface, modules, and architecture in such a way that It meets the requirements. Individuals with this skill are called system designers and they consider factors such as functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, security, and usability during the design phase. 

Linux 

Linux as a tech skill means that someone with the skill must be able to use the operating system for all devices. Linux, itself is an open-source operating system that serves as the core component of various Linux distributions (often referred to as "distros"), such as Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and CentOS. 

Security Software 

Security software as a skill refers to expertise in using, executing, or developing software tools and solutions specifically focused on cybersecurity and protecting digital systems, networks, and data from threats. 

Security Strategy

A security strategist will be responsible for developing and implementing an organization's security strategy to protect its assets, systems, and data from various threats. The skill involves identifying potential risks and threats, then designing procedures that can help to respond to the attacks efficiently and better still prevent the ones that are yet to come. 

Django 

Django is a web framework written in Python that makes it easy for web applications to be developed. It contains several useful features such as an ORM (Object-relational mapping), Admin interface, authorization, security, template engine, and more. 

Computer Security Incident Management 

Having skills in Computer Security Incident Management (CSIM) refers to the ability to effectively handle and respond to security incidents within a computing environment. This technical skill set involves response planning, incident identification, incident planning, incident analysis, and a lot more. 

React 

Someone proficient in React can design and build user interfaces effectively using the React JavaScript library, enabling them to create dynamic and interactive web applications with enhanced user experiences. Also, a React expert understands the whole process using React's built-in state and props mechanism or integrates additional state management tools. 

Cyberattacks

According to Coursera, Cyberattacks are a skill that can be used to protect an organization's people and assets against cybercriminals from ransomware to denial of service. 

Coursera, after analyzing their results and getting the facts right, thinks that individuals who have any or all of these tech skills could be highly sought after and bag a well-paying job in 2024.
