The Layoff Season is not over as Amazon Pharmacy Fires Hundreds from its Health Division

Another batch of hundreds will lose their jobs as Amazon Health has decided to lay off some employees from its One medical chain and Medical Pharmacy.

According to Forbes, an internal memo from Neil Lindsay, Senior Vice President of Amazon Health Services, revealed that layoffs will affect "a few hundred roles" within the One Medical chain. This chain, acquired by Amazon for $3.9 billion last February, operates as a "membership-based primary care practice" offering both in-person and virtual care services, along with Amazon Pharmacy.

Lindsay also told Forbes that the retailer's healthcare ventures have experienced significant expansion, highlighting a 96% customer satisfaction rating for Amazon Clinic. The Senior Vice President also mentioned the company's commitment to simplifying healthcare, stating that they will persist in their mission towards this goal.

The management of the company has decided that the employees affected by the layoff will get financial support, benefit continuation, and career assistance while they navigate this phase. Also, they will be allowed to apply for other roles within the company.

This year alone, Amazon has touched almost all of its divisions, from Prime to Twitch and MGM videos cutting off at least 100 jobs in January 2024 alone. The majority of these job cuts are an attempt made by the company to cut costs.

It's the 2nd month of the year 2024 and it has still not stopped raining job cuts that took off in January. However, despite the layoffs, most of these tech companies are still currently hiring for certain roles which is why the affected employees are urged to apply for other positions open within the organization.
