Reporting the NERC 2023/2024 Recruitment Scam

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is a regulatory body that caters to the affairs of the electricity enterprise in Nigeria. The body was created on the 31st of October, 2005, and over the years, it has employed several individuals to provide adequate and reliable services to the people of Nigeria. However, recently there has been false information flying around the internet that the  NERC is currently recruiting for the year 2023/24.

Is the NERC recruitment ongoing?

No! The NERC is not recruiting currently. Findings show that the application link that is being distributed everywhere on the internet does not lead to the application portal. Also the NERC has taken to its website to annul the fake recruitment exercise, saying "The commission is not recruiting directly or through any proxy for any position." It also stated that it will only follow due process to conduct recruitment and when a decision is made to commence the hiring process it will advertise all available positions formally to the public.

What are the functions of the NERC

  • Transmission, distribution, and trading of electricity.

  • Setting and regulating electricity tariffs

  • Observing and enforcing strict and fair compliance with rules and regulations.

  • Protecting the interest of customers by putting their concerns first.

  • Operating licenses and determining operating codes.

  • Regulating standard performance

  • Recruiting employees and approving salary

  • Ensuring proper conflict resolution that may arise between consumers and the organization.

Who can send applications to the NERC?

The NERC recruits for several roles; so, anyone with skills that fit any of the roles can apply. However, while you wait on the NERC to talk about recruitment, here are a few general requirements you may need to fulfill:

  • WAEC/NECO results with at least 5 credit passes in not more than 2 sittings.

  • B.sc/HND/OND in a relevant field.

  • NYSC discharge certificate

  • Valid means of Identification (NIN, Voters card, or driver's license.

Do I have to pay for employment processing?

NERC does not charge prospective applicants for the employment process; therefore, be careful and avoid paying anyone to help you process your employment.

How much does NERC pay its workers?

The NERC uses a salary structure that is designed for only the workers within the body. According to my salary scale, the average income of an employee at NERC is about NGN128,000 monthly.
