Remote Pharmacists Job

Remote Pharmacists Job

Traditionally, working in a pharmacy meant visiting a physical community or hospital pharmacy to dispense medications. However, as remote work becomes more popular as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak, more healthcare organizations are hiring remote pharmacists or pharmacy technicians. In some cases, pharmacies give current employees the flexibility to work remotely.

Who Is A Remote Pharmacist?

Remote pharmacists typically work from home or another location other than an office or health care facility. Remote pharmacists handle prescriptions and may answer questions about drug interactions in the same way that hospital and commercial pharmacy pharmacists do, but they typically consult for hospitals and clinics or handle prescriptions for mail-order drug companies, short- and long-term care facilities, and other similar businesses.

Remote pharmacists oversee the process of filling prescriptions for their company; they ensure that prescribed medications are entered accurately into the system and that orders are filled efficiently. Although remote pharmacists may need to visit the office on occasion, they do the majority of their administrative work from home. They usually do not have much direct contact with patients.

Remote Pharmacy Jobs

Several health care providers now allow pharmacists to work from home. With a little research and determination, you can find a plethora of remote pharmacist job opportunities. Below are some:

Ambulatory care

Ambulatory care pharmacists typically work in outpatient settings such as medical clinics, hospital outpatient centers, and dialysis centers. Technology, on the other hand, has enabled pharmacists to virtually meet with patients and the healthcare team to manage medication therapies. Ambulatory care pharmacists manage the medications of patients with chronic medical conditions, collaborating with nurses, doctors, and other members of the healthcare team. RxLive and CarepathRx are two companies in this space.

Medication therapy management (MTM)

MTM pharmacists offer a variety of services to patients to optimize medication therapy and encourage safe, effective medication use. Fortunately, these services can be provided by phone or video software from anywhere. Remote pharmacists can assist patients in monitoring and improving medication use through various platforms such as Tabula Rasa Healthcare and Aspen RxHealth. Pharmacy technicians may be able to work remotely to assist MTM pharmacists in scheduling MTM appointments and following up with patients.

Inpatient clinical services

Pharmacists can work for hospitals and health systems remotely. Remote clinical pharmacist responsibilities include verifying physician orders, identifying potential drug interactions, and serving as a drug-information resource for members of the healthcare team.

Pharmacists may choose to work remotely for companies such as Encompass Health, which contracts clinical services to multiple hospitals, or for a specific hospital within a health system such as Universal Health Services.

Pharmacy benefit manager (PBM)

Pharmacists frequently assist in the direction of clinical programs in PBM and managed care settings. They can also assist with prior authorization reviews and formulary management for health insurance plans. Express Scripts and OptumRx are two PBM companies.
