NURTW Jobs for Graduates

NURTW, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, is a body that oversees and coordinates the affairs of all commercial drivers in Nigeria. Beyond the popular "Agbero" tag given to this organization, it also provides jobs for people who have skills and are willing to work. While the NURTW has jobs lined up for Artisans, it also has a couple of roles that graduates can fill. 

It is very much possible that graduates may want to opt out of NURTW jobs because of the "thuggery stigma" that has been attached to it for a very long term. However, if you are a graduate and do not mind, there are jobs that you can do for the NURTW and feel fulfilled filling in the space. Want to know about them? Read on. 

Park Chairman/ NURTW Chairman

Just like the name implies - the chairman of the NURTW basically serves as the "head" who stays in charge of all activities that happen within the union. Considering that there are 36 States in Nigeria, each state is opportune to have a chairman to direct the affairs of all road transport workers. However, the chairman doesn't work alone, he performs his duty alongside other members of the team to ensure that everyone agrees with and contributes to the development of the union in that state. A chairman can make decisions but he still needs to carry other people along because that's what a good leader does. 

NURTW Secretary

The union must continuously be in good shape, so meetings are held from time to time and it is the job of a secretary to take down minutes of the meeting and present them during the subsequent meetings. The secretary reads out the minutes to everyone in attendance to have an idea of what was discussed in the last meetings, what needs to be done, and what has been done. A secretary looking to work for the NURTW must have impressive communication skills which include the ability to write readable sentences and read them correctly to a group of people. Also, they must know how to listen because if they miss out on vital information during the meeting, it won't be included in the minutes and may cause a loophole in moving forward. 

NURTW Assistant Secretary

The job of the assistant secretary is to stand in for the secretary in their absence. This means that an assistant secretary can also do the job of a secretary which includes scribbling down activities that happened during the meetings and reading the content to everyone present at the next meeting. They can also work with the secretary as a team when there is a huge workload. Furthermore, they can slot in their input where needed and provide their support to make sure that all tasks are cleared off the table. 

NURTW Legal Officer

For several reasons which include handling all legal responsibilities and giving advice to the NURTW team, a legal officer comes to play. Whenever it looks like an issue is up or there is a disagreement between the union and a foreign body, the legal officer ensures that appropriate measures are taken to keep the union whole and in check. If there is a need to appear at the court or prepare documents to establish an agreement, the legal officer stands in for the union and does all that needs to be done, even with the support of the union executives.  

NURTW Treasurer

Anyone who knows how to handle money and can account for every bit of it can work as a treasurer with the NURTW. Recalling that the body has over 2million members who perform their duties of contributing a certain amount of money to its development, someone needs to know how the funds are received and spent. Hence, a treasurer must be a top-tier accountable person, one who doesn't miss out on any money details and would not stutter when they have to make any presentation concerning the union's funds. This brings us to the top quality of a treasurer which is "Trustworthiness'' - anyone who cannot be transparent cannot be a treasurer. 

Park Management Committee

The park is where you find all commercial drivers, and to ensure that it is properly managed, a committee is set up to take full responsibility. The committee can consist of 6 - 8 persons whose job is to make sure that the park runs smoothly, commercial drivers treat passengers right, there is no form of bias and all matters are attended to promptly. 

The jobs listed above are roles that graduates can pull off easily. If you are an extrovert and think that you can do well handling these positions, go for it. Don't be discouraged by the different stories that tag NURTW workers as mafians. Instead, look on the brighter side.
