Many times, Nigerians have had to deal with being scammed because all they want to do is patronize a vendor online. This situation happens both ways and vendors have also had their fair share of the situation.
According to Adeola Owosho, founder of the new product, Midddleman, the platform was "birthed from a place of pain and frustration." He explained that there is currently very little trust in the Nigerian e-commerce space and during his 5years as an entrepreneur, this has been the deadliest problem he has ever faced. Deciding that things should not continue like this with the e-commerce business in the country, Adeola Owosho and Omolara Sanni launched Midddleman.
Midddleman is an escrow payment platform where buyers and sellers can connect but most importantly, transact business with each other safely. While vendors can receive payment before delivery, the buyers can also, with no doubt, pay vendors upfront knowing fully well that their money has gone into safe hands.
With Midddleman, vendors can now make more sales because they can do business with buyers who are willing to pay before delivery. The company says it is the strong cord that protects buyers and sellers from fraud.
According to Adeola, the Midddleman story started as far back as 2018, just when he and Omolara graduated from the university. He revealed that they had sold a lot of items, ranging from skincare products to vehicle care tools and workplace accessories, and while at it, the vendor-buyer trust was always an issue. Omolara also added that the decision to start Midddleman was influenced after they attended a conference in Lagos; it was at this point that they knew they had to get up and build.
Midddleman will make sure that this is finally a world where legitimate business owners are able to thrive and build trust easily; Adeola said in the introduction video. "We don't want all vendors on Midddleman, we only want trustworthy ones and that is why we have built this product." He added. The platform verifies all vendor's legitimacy and runs background checks before they are unboarded.
Omolara and Adeola have built great stuff that will, in the long run, make social commerce easy for shoppers and vendors.
