Jobs at the highest replacement risk by AI

Jobs at the highest replacement risk by AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the ability of machines and computer-automated entities to perform tasks that can ordinarily be carried out by human intelligence. A Few years ago, McKinsey conducted research and found out that about half of the activities carried out by workers across all sectors could be automated by  Artificial Intelligence (AI). Furthermore, the research revealed that about 15% of the global workforce, translating to 400 million workers, could lose their jobs between  2016 - 2030.

AI is not cooling off; it unfolds its magic everyday and quite a number of jobs are at stake. Chatgpt was launched last November and it has consistently rocked the boat. People have explored the goodness of the system to perform office tasks, make audio and videos, write codes, resumes, cover letters, and short stories. This means that some jobs are at the highest risk of being replaced by AI and they include:

Data Entry and Administrative Job

Data entry and administrative jobs are majorly routine jobs, they follow the same process of data entry, sorting, and filling. While humans can perform these tasks, automated machines can do the same. There are Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools that can scan and extract information from physical or digital documents, these tools include OCR ( optical character recognition), NLP (Natural language processing), and RPA (Robotic process automation). While the OCR reads the texts, it converts them into digital data that is easily inputted into a spreadsheet. Also, while NLP sorts the task of filing, the RPA can automate data maintenance and update.

Customer support

Customer support involves taking complaints, answering questions, and providing solutions and guidance. These are tasks that AI can fix; the use of chatbots can help customers troubleshoot any issue and provide solutions while humans are away. Also, complex problems or issues that the AIs are not automated to fix can be disseminated to humans promptly through the Chatbot. Other alternatives to Chatbots are Drift, Chatfuel, and Tars. These tools can leverage customers' data it has been fed with to provide personalized solutions and recommendations. Several companies have taken to Chatbots to reply to customers 24/7 while the employees are on break.

Manufacturing Jobs

Some manufacturing industries have already started to use robotics and automated machines to replace humans to make work less stressful for the available workers and even faster. As new technologies emerge every day, the industry is checking to see how machines can help them execute more tasks; invariably, this means fewer jobs for people looking to work in the industry. Automated machines can perform tasks such as welding, painting, and drilling accurately and when it comes to quality control too, the machines work excellently. Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems can use technology to recognize irregularities and errors in products and materials, making the need for manual inspection unnecessary.

Finance Jobs

AI can perform manual labor within the finance sector, including loan processing, fraud detection, fund release, and more. Also, AI systems have been improved to predict stock prices, make research on investment and stock trading, help customers with budgeting and debt management. These are tasks that are carried out physically by employees, but if machines can now do them with much accuracy and precision, there may be no need to hire human power to perform these tasks. However, financial organizations who think they may not need more employees must have invested a lot in AI systems and made an effort to stay ahead of the curve, technology-wise.

Retail Jobs

Several roles in the retail industry are bound to become bygones as automation becomes more real. AI can be pulled to recommend products to customers and give shoppers a great experience. AI systems are developed to have collaborative filtering techniques to suggest products that may suit customers' interests. Voice assistants are also systems that have been incorporated into the retail industry to make shopping a seamless activity for customers.

Diagnostic centers (Healthcare)

Although core roles like Doctors, Nurses, and Surgeons can not be entirely replaced by AI in the healthcare sector, some medical processes already benefit from it. IBM Watson is an AI-powered system that is transforming the healthcare system, helping doctors and patients get their diagnoses faster and more accurately. While there may be no threat glaring at the health care system directly, people who work in diagnostic centers are close to losing their jobs.

Media and Publishing Sector

AI can take great pictures, make audio and videos to satisfaction. Recently, a study revealed that about 1 in 4 jobs in the media industry will be replaced by AI within the next 10 years. This is most likely true because looking at the extent to which AI can perform some media tasks, several jobs may be tossed out. Some AI systems have been wired to optimize advertising campaigns and also target ads to a certain audience based on the analysis of their behavior and interest; the same goes for the distribution of content.

Food Service

The traditional way of taking orders and making recipes may have to completely go, and employees in this role may lose their job. Chatbots can take orders and respond to customers, and automated machines can be designed into arms to make Pizza, Shawarma, Hamburgers, and all other fast food. Some videos on the internet have portrayed delivery service as an activity that drones and autonomous vehicles can perform. Sooner, dispatch riders may not be needed if most restaurants and food companies can afford the technology.

Several people feel uncertain about what the future holds for them because of how technology is evolving. People are scared that machines are coming over to get their jobs and they may not be able to move into another role. The reality about the whole AI thing is that until organizations are buoyant enough to purchase and invest in these technologies, they still have to make do with human power. The emerging technologies are very expensive and may discourage organizations from transiting to AI immediately and completely. So, if you are still at your job, do it diligently and give your best. Do not let panic crawl into your art and eat up your productivity.
