Direct Entry Jamb candidates, for a long time, have been known to bypass the regular JAMB exam. Usually, the only thing they have to do is present qualifications that can serve as an alternative and also exempt them from the JAMB exam. These alternative qualifications include A-level exams, Ordinary national diploma, Higher National Diploma, or even NCE.
However, with the new development, Direct Entry Candidates will now have to take cognitive and verbal reasoning tests with effect from 2024. The Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, disclosed this information during an online meeting with Education Commissioners from all 36 States of the country.
"As from 2024, JAMB will conduct an Aptitude Test for all Direct Entry candidates to assess their academic potential or career suitability, as well as their mental or physical capacity,” Oloyede said in a bulletin published by the board.
According to Oloyede, this new approach is a smart assessment focusing on evaluating the candidate's present thinking abilities, diverging from traditional subjects like Mathematics, Chemistry, Government, Physics, and so on. He also clarified that the aptitude test will include Verbal, Abstract, Mechanical, and Numeric Reasoning, Data Checking, and Work Sampling. To this effect, he announced that Direct Entry registration will only be available at JAMB Offices across the country for candidates willing to make a purchase.
Individuals who are looking to register with JAMB next year have been implored to give details like their previous school's registration number, the courses they studied, the institution that awarded their qualification, the school they attended, the year they graduated, and depending on their previous qualifications, give admission letters.
