How to Survive Being a Student and an Employee

Most Nigerians who move outside of the country to study tend to take some jobs to ensure that their upkeep is in check. This is not to say that it doesn't happen in Nigeria itself as there are certain people currently enrolled for their masters and have 9-5 jobs.

Now, the issue is that this style can be tiring, and over time people have complained of burning out. In most cases, some people even find it hard to find a balance. It's not bad that you are trying to multitask, however, it is important that you don't lose yourself in the process and this is what we think you should do to survive every single day as a student and an employee.

If you can, take a flexible job

If you are a student and looking to have a job, then you must opt for a job that can spare you some time - maybe a part-time job or a remote job because working full-time and attending classes may be tough on you. When applying to jobs, check through and be sure that they offer the bit of comfort you might need to get both of your goals in place.

Have a plan

It is very hard when you just go ahead to get a job and at the same time enroll in school when you have no clear plans on how to get things going. Chances are, without a plan, you might get overwhelmed and confused in the long run. So, take your time, and draw out a simple plan that you can follow - it can include a timetable for your classes and also the times you need to be at work. It makes things easier for you.

Try some time management

Already, there isn't a lot of time but you want to create some for yourself and the best way to do that is to manage your time properly. Don't spend unnecessary time attending to non-essential tasks. Prioritize your responsibilities, allocating time efficiently between your studies and work commitments. Implementing effective time management techniques, such as setting realistic goals and creating a schedule, can help you carve out dedicated moments for personal activities.

Network with people who share similar commitments

You can make this journey easier if you move with people who are in the same shoes as you. They can even share tips, and provide emotional support. Creating a network of individuals facing similar work and school challenges allows for mutual understanding and the exchange of strategies to navigate the demands effectively. You can collaborate on study sessions, share resources, and possibly find shared solutions to common issues.

If you can, outsource house chores

While working a job and being a student, you probably have other chores that you need to attend to. Don't go all weary on yourself when you can delegate or outsource household chores. Consider hiring help or involving family members and roommates to share responsibilities. Outsourcing tasks like cleaning, grocery shopping, or meal preparation can free up valuable time for your work and studies.

Working and being in school can be a lot of work but we're sure that some tips, just like the ones listed above can help you get through each day. As usual, we are rooting for you!
