How much does your favorite OAPS earn monthly?

OAP means On-Air Personality. There are a lot of ideas that strike people's minds when they hear the word "On-Air Personality" - Does that mean we don't get to see their faces? Do they work at radio stations? Can you find them at television stations? All of these assumptions may seem right. However, there is a solid way to describe them - "professionals who are skilled to speak/read out written content such as news reports, commercial messages, advertisements or jingles.'' You will mostly find them rendering their skills to radio stations.

Responsibilities of an OAP

  •  They make fascinating commentaries amidst music that is being played.

  • They interview guests who come on the programs.

  • They announce guests who get invited to a show.

  • They host radio programs, interacting fully with the audience who sends in their calls.

  • That draft/curate the content that goes live on radio programs.

  • They conduct thorough research that can help them to streamline their on-air content.

The Monthly Salary of OAPs in Nigeria

Nigeria has a truckload of OAPs who have distinct skills and are at different stages of their career. This means that while they are all recognized as On Air Personalities, they may not be paid the same amount of monthly salaries. Also, most times, the salary paid to OAPs is dependent on factors such as the financial capacity of the company, career stage, years of experience, and location of the company. These factors may cause OAPs to be paid more or less. However, according to Glassdoor, the monthly salary of an OAP is between N70,000 - N502,000. The lowest salary is N70,000 and this may be for newbie OAPs who are just starting out their careers or interning to get practical knowledge.

However, as they begin to progress in their career, they earn more and more until they reach a stage where they start to earn about N500,000. Note that this is just a project and many radio companies may even choose to pay their entry-level OAPs more, say N100,000 or N150,000 if they are financially capable of doing that. Also, location-wise, a radio station in Lagos will most likely pay their OAPs more salary compared to the ones in Akure because companies in Lagos are believed to have more exposure which in turn influences their finances.
