A wage shouldn’t make a person.” There are various factors that determine if a person can take more than 1 Job and reasons why people want to have more than 1 Job. As much as people want to get paid for their work ethics, capabilities, skills, and qualification for a better payroll, it is advisable to evaluate the conditions and impediments in order to strike a balance to avoid checking out. Why do people want to take more than one Job?

People take more than 1 Job for various reasons, some of which include: 

  • The Money Factor: People need money to do lots of things to reach their monetary aim—meeting whatever goals they have set for their economic year. 
  1. Some people, need money to support their families, working on manual labor or service jobs trying to survive on low wages.

  • The Economic System of the Country: When the economic system constantly goes beyond Individual capacity, it becomes a problem for balance. There’s inflation in the market price, and individuals are working as hard as they can sustain is also another factor why people want to take more than one job. 
  • Lots of time: In a case where an individual does not have enough day jobs to engage in but has a less demanding job and prefers not to laze around, they take more jobs.

  • Passion and Interest: This emphasizes one of the factors people take more jobs (Lots of time). When an individual has a lot of time and energy, enjoying how they operate in their work, it boosts the individual’s morale leading the individual to consider taking more jobs but not forgetting to balance the tasks. 
  • Money: Another reason to consider taking more jobs is Money—the main factor to revenue growth, higher income, and financial comfortability.
  • Job type: For an individual who has an adjustable schedule, working 9-3 from home (remotely), helps in facilitating more numerous jobs that are less demanding. 

Pros of taking more Jobs

  • Professional experience and exposure: Having more than one job helps an individual in getting more skills and experience on how to run or control divergent duties, giving access to more employment possibilities. 
  • Resume upgrade: When recruiters are looking to employ an individual for a certain role, your CV is the selling point as it is the first contact between the individual and the recruiter. So, picking up a CV that shows one can multi-task and be productive at the same time is an advantage edge for the individual, which can also serve as a shortcut to career advancement. 
  • Networking Opportunities: It opens the door to connecting with people with like minds and professionals in that career field, learning and unlearning how different industries operate. 

 

Cons of taking more Jobs

  • Productivity: The idea of having two to three jobs affects productivity because the energy you give to Job A will be different from the energy you will be giving Job B and C, especially when a task clashes. You tend to give more attention to one than the others, which makes it stressful to put all your balls in different baskets. 
  • Emotional breakdown: It affects one emotionally when an individual can't find a balance between being productive and their effectiveness doesn't go the way it ought to go, it stresses them out physically and mentally, affecting how the individual manages a job. 
  • Work-life balance: Having more than two to three jobs affects work-life balance, i.e., having less time for Families, Friends, and engaging in fun time activities that helps to release workloads.
