Here is all you need to know about applying for a scholarship at the Federal Scholarship Board 

The Federal Scholarship Board in Nigeria is a core part of the department of the Federal Ministry of Education. This department is headed by the director who is also the secretary of the board. The purpose of creating this account is to facilitate the scholarship application process. By having an account, you can access and submit scholarship applications, track the status of your application, and get relevant updates. To create an account with the Federal Scholarship Board; 

  • Log on to the account creation website 

  • Your browser should launch you into a page that requires that you fill out a form.

  • You get a notification that you have been registered. So, you are asked to log in again. This time, into the account you just created.

What are the methods of applying for the scholarship? 

You can apply for a scholarship with the board via different routes such as the education portal or the nomination. 

For the education portal: This is the regular method whereby you get to create an account and visit the FSB (Federal Scholarship Board) portal to apply. All you have to do is simply fill out the form as explained earlier. 

Nominating Agency: In this case, a school or organization can deem it fit to nominate you for a scholarship because they think that you merit it. It is after nomination that a concerned candidate can go ahead to apply for a scholarship. 

How can I be qualified for the FSB Scholarship? 

To be qualified for the scholarship with the federal scholarship board, the requirements vary from year to year depending on the level of your education. However, the general requirements include the following: 

For Undergraduate: 

  • Candidates must have a minimum qualification of 5 distinctions (As and Bs) in subjects relevant to their field of study including English and Mathematics. 

  • SSCE certificate must be available on request and must not be more than 2 years old. 

  • Candidates must be within the ages of 17 and 20. 

For Postgraduates: 

  • All applicants must have a first degree with a first class grade or at least, a 2:1.

  • Applicants must have completed the compulsory NYSC program. 

  • The age limit is 35 years for Masters students and 40 for PhD candidates. 

Also, it is important to note that only certain fields/courses are eligible to get the scholarship, the courses include the following: 

Undergraduate: 

  • Engineering

  • Geology

  • Agriculture

  • Languages

  • Sciences

  • Mathematics

  • Environmental Sciences

  • Law

  • Social Sciences

  • Biotechnology

  • Medicine

  • Architecture

  • Neurology

Postgraduate: 

Masters and Ph.D. degrees in all fields.
