FG's BAN ON CERTIFICATES: Over 15,000 Nigerian Students might have been affected

After a Nigerian reporter uncovered a gruesome act that has been going on among foreign universities in Nigeria, the FG, through the Ministry of Education banned certain universities from issuing degree certificates to students. 

Following this decision made by the federal government, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has confirmed that more than 15,000 Nigerian students are most likely to be affected by the development. This means that the certificates of these 15,000 people will be rendered invalid until the FG lifts the ban and with the look of things, it doesn't look like it yet. 

The NANS president in the Benin Republic, Ugochukwu, has today, 4th January 2023 pleaded with the FG to show some leniency over the ban, stating that there are students who have been admitted into these universities truly without undergoing any fraudulent process. 

"For now, I will say that the Federal Government should look into the issue. Now, you can't, because it is happening in this school, punish everyone because it involves close to 15,000 students in the Benin Republic,” Ugochukwu told Channels Television.

He mentioned that the government needed to intensify its efforts to investigate and prosecute individuals linked to the incident. 

Also, he revealed that a committee established by NANS in the Benin Republic is actively examining the matter, emphasizing that the outcomes of their investigation will play a big role in preventing similar occurrences moving forward. 

"I have really not validated if it has been happening for a long time. This is just like what just came out on social media and we are still trying to find out how long it has been happening,” the NANS president said. So, that is why I set up a committee as the president to investigate it," the NANS president shared.
