It is important to note that Civil servants in Lagos state are required to pay taxes on their annual income, which can result in a projected annual net income. Projected annual net income is another measure that people use to evaluate their finances but all expenses and taxes must have been subtracted. Taxes are usually deducted from a civil servant's gross salary, and the amount paid is determined by the tax laws and regulations in Nigeria. For instance, a civil servant earning a gross salary (the actual amount of money paid to the employee by the state government) of N2,000,000 per annum may be subject to a tax rate of 20%. This would result in a tax liability of N 400,000 leaving them with a projected annual net income of N1,600,000.

The government has also implemented various initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of civil servants, including the introduction of pension schemes and the regularization of contracts. Despite the potential shortcomings that "sometimes" come with working in the civil service, the benefits can be greater than the negatives, making it an appealing prospect for a significant number of people.
