Uber Makes a Decision To Let Go Some of its Employees

One of the big transportation companies around the world, Uber, has made a decision to allow some of its Staff to go during an even more rigorous set of ongoing performance reviews. An insider in the company made this decision known to the public, and the company has decided to hire new employees to backfill impacted roles.

Why is Uber allowing some of its Staff to go?

The CEO of Uber, Dara Khosrowshahi, had previously said they don't have plans to lay off anyone in the company; as an affirmative statement, an Uber spokesman said the decision hasn't changed.

But now the decision has changed as the transportation company will also be taking after the tech giants that have laid off their employees, such as Twitter, Amazon, Google, HP, and Dell, among many others, with more than 100, 000 people affected by the layoff this year according to a site called layoff.fyi.

The CEO said this job cut is a function of more stringent performance reviews. He said:

"This year, we've taken an even more rigorous approach to our performance review process to ensure our talent bar remains very high," a representative for Uber said in a statement to Insider. "We plan to backfill these positions and will continue to invest in attracting and retaining top talent at Uber."

It is an excellent reason to cut some jobs for companies based on the performance review process. The transportation company did not disclose the total number of people affected.

But Uber made it clear that they have plans to maintain the company's headcount, which is part of the rampant push among some tech companies to impose higher standards at reviews.

More on the transportation company

Uber was reported to have a fourth-quarter revenue of about $8.6 billion as of February 8, which is a 49% increase year over year. "We ended 2022 with our strongest quarter ever, with robust demand and record margins," Khosrowshahi said in a statement.

The transportation company said they saw gross booking grow by 19% year over year as of the 4th quarter, which projected the growth continuity in the bookings for the first quarter.

Finally

Allowing some workers to go due to reviews is a good decision, as retaining them can lead to backwardness in the company. Also, it is good to give them some warning because we can never tell what happened to them to get such reviews that warrant letting them go.

This report from the transportation company, Uber, is one of the other news surrounding headcount reduction in companies because its reason for doing so differs from other companies.

Reports like this will make others more severe and push them to be more active and optimistic about their work. Also, the fact that they plan to hire some new employees makes it more balanced.

We hope every company will keep thriving even at this stage, as the global economy could be more encouraging.
