Have you been thinking of making your organization one with people from different backgrounds and areas of life? At HubforJobs, we have got you! I was having a conversation with a friend the other day, and he stated "As humans, we grow in an environment that embraces us, encourages us, and gives us the free hand to become our best selves without looking over our shoulders" and I can definitely relate to that because I have been the most productive in my happiest state. Generally, as individuals, we can only reach our full potential in an environment that is interested in our personal and professional growth.
It reminds me of a famous quote by Ranbir Kapoor that says "I believe that working with good people matters because then the work environment is good. If there is a sense of respect and belief among the people you work with, that is when good work is done”. Our productivity can only be at the maximum when we have a great work environment that gives us a sense of belonging. What then is a work environment that promotes all of the above mentioned? A workplace that encourages good teamwork, and a healthy environment while promoting the growth of the employees is referred to as "an inclusive workplace”. We are mostly in our full glory when we are in our happiest state. How do you promote and encourage your employees' well-being and happiness to increase and influence work productivity? In this article, we will discuss strategies for an all-inclusive workplace.
What Is An All-Inclusive Workplace?
As the name implies "an all-inclusive workplace” is a workplace that carries all its employees along in organizational growth and cultural development. This workplace ensures that all employees are included in the process of productivity according to their job roles without any form of bias towards anyone. In an inclusive workplace, every employee is treated fairly with respect, and identified for their valuable contributions without being compared. It is important to note that as cliché as it may sound "we are all unique in our own way” and "no two persons are the same”. As an organization, we need to be able to recognize the differences between our employees, individual strengths, and weaknesses and then strategize on how to use all these to the advantage of the employees and the organization.
What makes an inclusive workplace important?
Why is it important to operate an all-inclusive workplace? There are various reasons why an organization needs to encourage and operate an all-inclusive workplace, some of which include:
- An organization that provides its employees with a sense of belonging will most likely get the best communication from the employees. The employees will feel more open to communicating because they know, they would not be judged or rebuked.
- An all-inclusive organization promotes teamwork which is very important for maximum productivity. Because in an environment where everyone is valued for their contributions without comparisons or bias, everyone will appreciate each other's work without competition
- The free will to be creative and innovative. We are most creative when we are valued and happy. An inclusive organization ensures that employees are not micro-managed. They are trusted to do their jobs and deliver their tasks.
- An all-inclusive workplace is most likely to get the best of their employees. Naturally, as human, we go the extra mile for people or places that embraces us and sees the best in us. We do not want to disappoint or let down people or places like that.
- An all-inclusive workplace is most likely to grow in revenue faster than the rest because in this case, every employee put in their best without being asked. This is because they see the organization as a part of them since the organization has also shown them that it has their best interest and has promoted their work-life balance.
Strategies We Can Use To Achieve an Inclusive Workplace
Achieving an inclusive workplace is a must for any organization or workplace that wants to grow and achieve the best productivity and practices. Here are some strategies you can put in place to create an inclusive workplace
- You Need to first carry out a workplace survey:
To understand the perspectives of your employees individually, it is best to carry out a survey. However, it is also very important fact these surveys are anonymous, this way the employees feel more at ease to answer truthfully without fear of being laid off or penalized.
- Encouraging confidential workplace therapy is the second step:
After the survey has been carried out, it is important to shift the employees' mindset to a positive path. Only a positive mind can achieve positive results. Encourage in-work therapy, this will help employees tackle blockheads and channel the right and positive mindset toward work.
- Appreciate and Recognize the Extra Mile Employees' have put in to achieve the best Achievements:
As individuals, we appreciate being recognized for the extra mile and effort we put into work. Therefore, an incentive will be an encouragement and motivation to do more. It does not have to be monetary, incentives as simple as a monthly title of recognition, a day off work, a spa ticket, or lunch vouchers can go a long way in promoting work productivity
- Promote Teamwork and cordial relationships within the organization:
Nobody is an island of knowledge, it is in the best interest of employees and the organization to encourage teamwork and work as a team. All organization that works together definitely will succeed together. Recognize individual differences, strengths, and weaknesses and use them to the best potential without making anyone feel left out.
- Promote Continuous Improvement and Learning:
The world is constantly evolving and so is our job industry. Everything keeps evolving and changing. The best practices of yesterday are not the best practices of today. With this in mind, it is also the responsibility of an organization to promote learning goals for its employees. This way, the employees grow personally and also acquire new knowledge to further contribute to the work and productivity of the organization
In the end, we need to understand as humans that everybody is different and unique in their own way. It is very important to recognize these differences and uniqueness for us to be in our best state. A happy employee is a happy workplace, a happy workplace will deliver happiness to customers, and a company that delivers happiness with definitely achieve success.
