Job Title: Intellectual Property Lawyer

Location: Sangotedo, Ajah, Lagos

Job Description

  • The Intellectual Property (IP) Lawyer is responsible for managing and protecting the intellectual assets of the organization.
  • This role involves advising on trademarks, copyrights, patents, and trade secrets, ensuring legal compliance, and defending the company's IP rights.
  • The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of IP law and strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities
IP Strategy and Management:

  • Develop and implement strategies to protect the company’s intellectual property assets.
  • Advise on the creation, acquisition, and maintenance of IP portfolios, including trademarks, copyrights, and patents.

IP Registration and Prosecution:

  • Prepare and file applications for trademarks, copyrights, and patents.
  • Manage the prosecution process and communicate with patent and trademark offices.

IP Compliance and Enforcement:

  • Monitor for potential infringements and take legal action to enforce the company’s IP rights.
  • Manage IP disputes, including cease-and-desist letters, litigation, and settlements.

Contract Drafting and Review:

  • Draft and review IP-related contracts such as licensing agreements, confidentiality agreements (NDAs), and assignment agreements.
  • Ensure contracts protect the company's IP interests and comply with relevant laws.

Legal Advisory:

  • Provide counsel to internal teams (e.g., R&D, marketing) on IP-related matters.
  • Advise on open-source software compliance and third-party IP usage.

Due Diligence:

  • Conduct IP due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships.
  • Assess the value and risks of IP assets during business transactions.

Training and Education:

  • Educate employees on IP policies and best practices.
  • Develop internal guidelines to ensure compliance with IP laws.

Qualifications

  • Degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law.
  • 3 years of experience specializing in intellectual property law.
  • Experience in technology is preferred.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of IP laws, including trademarks, copyrights, patents, and trade secrets.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with IP management tools and databases.
