Job Overview

  • The Food Processing/Technology Engineer is responsible for applying engineering principles to the development, design, and optimization of processes used in food production.
  • This role involves working with various technologies and machinery to ensure efficient, safe, and sustainable food production.
  • The engineer will focus on improving food processing techniques, quality control, and compliance with health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize food processing systems and technologies for large-scale production.
  • Ensure that food production processes meet regulatory and safety standards, including hygiene and quality control.
  • Conduct research to develop new methods and technologies that improve food production efficiency and product quality.
  • Work closely with production teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in the processing equipment.
  • Monitor and analyze production data to optimize performance and reduce costs.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure product quality standards are maintained.
  • Ensure that all food processing operations comply with industry standards and regulations and guidelines.
  • Develop and test prototypes for new food products or processing equipment.
  • Implement sustainable practices and explore energy-efficient technologies in the food production process.
  • Train and support production staff in the use of new equipment and processes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of M.Sc degree in Food Processing Engineeirng, Food Science, Food Engineering, Food Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in the construction supervision of medium to large scale food processing infrastructure development projects
  • Proven experience in working on projects financed by major multilaterial international lending aganecy (e.g WB, IsDB, AfDB, IFAD etc)
  • Must be registered with a professional body
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, quality control, and process optimization.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for designing food processing systems (e.g., AutoCAD).
  • Familiarity with the use of industrial machinery and food processing equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Hands-on experience on the use of Microsoft Office tools.
