This is largely due to a series of ASUU strikes and deteriorating facilities hence the need for private universities. At the time of writing this article, Nigeria is home to 99 private universities. The majority of them are owned by religious organizations and a few by individuals.

The fifth-best private institution in Nigeria is Redeemer’s University Nigeria, which is owned by the Redeemed Christian Church Of God (RCCG) with Pastor Enoch Adeboye as the overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

It was established in 2005 in Ede, Osun State after approval from the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Since it started operations in 2005, Redeemer’s University has graduated twelve classes.

The institution has recorded numerous achievements. In 2014, during the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone and Nigeria, the first reliable diagnosis of an Ebola case was made at the school.

Two novel highly divergent rhabdoviruses, Ekpoma, were discovered.
